Inflammation and facial redness can emerge from common skin conditions such as acne, sunburn or rosacea. Blood vessels beneath the skin can cause redness or swelling. Natural remedies to soothe inflamed skin may help reduce and prevent its appearance. Although herbal remedies are alternatives to over-the-counter skin items, there still lacks substantive evidence regarding their effect on skin redness. Always consult your dermatologist before beginning a new treatment.

Oatmeal MaskOatmeal is one treatment for irritated and inflamed skin because of its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, states the RN Guide to Skin Care website. Trace minerals present in oatmeal help to relieve itching, redness and irritation.

Mix whole-grain organic oatmeal with milk to establish a pastelike consistency. Apply thoroughly across the face, avoiding the eyes and mouth. Milk helps to calm aggravated skin while also acting as a gentle exfoliant with its lactic acid to remove dead skin cells associated with inflammation. Allow to dry for approximately 15 minutes and rinse with warm water. This mask is safe to use once a week for those who experience redness.
